Did you know that felt is used in the electrical systems of Helsinki trams, as padding in horse saddles, by the Finnish Defence Forces, under furniture legs, in office acoustic panels, and in designer handbags?
Felt in interior design and architecture
Wool felt as an interior material brings the idea of warmth, tranquility and natural aesthetics. This down to earth material is all this, but it is also much more. Few materials are as versatile as felt.
Wool felt can be crafted into partitions, rugs, bed headboards, or seating. It can also be used for decorative elements and made into wall panels that soften acoustics. As an interior material, wool felt is also dirt-repellent and easy to keep clean. In our tests, we even managed to remove blueberry soup from white wool felt!
Felt can be made from wool, synthetic fibers, or blends of the two. In interior applications, wool felt is most commonly preferred, but depending on the use case, colorful polypropylene felts can also be a viable option.
We also offer a cutting service, backed by our extensive experience and expertise in working with felt. Additionally, we have a wide network of subcontractors, enabling us to tackle even the most challenging projects. Koskenpää Felt Factory is a flexible and solution-oriented business partner. Needle felting can also be performed on-site with our machinery.

KH Felt Factory
Koskenpää Felt Factory was founded in 1922 by entrepreneur Kustaa Vuolle-Apiala. For decades, the factory produced a variety of felt footwear and industrial felts. Even Marshal Mannerheim’s felt boots were crafted at Koskenpää!
In the 1970s, the production of sealing strips began. The modern polypropylene log seal (KH sealing strip), developed and manufactured at Koskenpää Felt Factory, became the company’s flagship product in the 1990s.
